Muscle Assessment

The Childhood Myositis Assessment Scale (CMAS) : includes several manoeuvres. The assessor can grade the child's ability and strength with an objective score that can be used to monitor progress.  More resources are coming soon to illustrate CMAS manoeuvres.

In a child with muscle disease it is important to also assess speech, swallowing and breathing.

Muscles also need to be assessed clinically in terms of inspection (wasting or hypertrophy), presence of fasciculations or tenderness, tone and reflexes.
